Soul Circus

Community, Creativity and Culture Unleashed!

Come one, come all!

Where to? Well, that’s for each of us to discover.

For some, it will feel like coming home. Others may experience childlike wonder, or maybe a sense of stepping into a world that they have never seen with their own eyes!

We are SOUL CIRCUS, an international community formed specifically to bring collaboration, cultural cross-pollination, creative expression, and nourishment to the festival experience.

This is the space where we can invite our Souls to play!

We believe that community is vital to living in a healthy society. And healthy community? Well, this takes strong relationships, trust, and respect for each of our counterparts.

Globally & Respectfully Sourced Treasures

Sure, the online world can bring just about anything to our door nowadays - fabrics, trinkets, spiritual talismans, and sacred scents included.

Yet, each of these items has been on a journey and has a story to tell. Our shop is an ambassador for the cultures that we share.

Our commitment to community doesn’t begin with our customers; it begins with sharing tea, smiles, and learning about the people who share their magic through us.

Creative Dream Hub

On the HAONOBEKO open stage, you may find our talented international crew offering sound journeys, workshops, performances, clowning, dancing, and more!

We open this space as an additional festival space as well, for scheduled or spontaneous panels, presentations, performances, workshops - as you wish!

Our goal, as a collective, is to shine the spotlight on our diversity and humanity - and this ‘us’ includes you.

At festivals, this looks like: Collaborating with organizers to build a schedule which allows for the festival to benefit from using our performance & workshop tent, while also make space for those of us who are supporting Soul Circus to share our gifts.

Collaboration over Competition

Nourishment for your Body - Served with Love!

We love our bodies- and we hope that you love yours, too! The world of festivals is an exciting space, usually filled with movement and fun.

SOUL CIRCUS’s Goddess Smoothies are lovingly designed to keep you fuelled for your day (and perhaps night) filled with activity.

Think flavourful, nourishing experience meets (as much as possible) local sourcing and responsible resource management.

Now, take that energy and go dance with it!

Our Mission

i.e., Which Values are We Working to Support?

Cultural Exchange

Many of us are exposed to one perspective as children - and maybe this perspective persists throughout most or all of our lives. By exposing ourselves to different ways of speaking, singing, eating, and seeing the world, each of us has the opportunity to learn a lot! Not only do we learn, but we are also then able to reflect on our differences, similarities, and share our own unique experiences in return.

Ecology

Respect for one another begins with respect for our home! Being a community-on-wheels gives us many opportunities to reflect on how we interact with each environment we encounter. How do we pollinate, so to speak, these areas? Using local produce for our Goddess Smoothies is an action that supports this value for us. And how about our impact - how we leave a space? We are ever-learning how to reduce our production of trash, and instead find alternative solutions to single-use or unnecessary packaging. We are also interested in discussing these topics with festival-goers, vendors, and organizers, so we may see and highlight solutions which could help us to support this value.

Celebration

Yes - we value celebration! Sharing food, music, movement, ideas, and kindness are all forms of celebration that cultivate gratitude. In turn, gratitude may cultivate a commitment to share these gifts with others. Ask yourself: “How can I share something that I do not possess?” There are infinite ways to celebrate, and we are excited to explore this beautiful practice together!

Gift Economy

Each person who contributes to SOUL CIRCUS is an integral part of what we are. Put differently, we are a sum of all of our parts, and each of these parts comes with different experiences, skills, passions, and privilege. Some of us have more time to prepare for our summer of festivals because we do not have the same bills or income needs as others. Inevitably, unexpected expenses may arise for some of us during our weeks supporting the caravan on the road. Some will spend more time performing or hosting workshops, while others may be organizing logistics, or lovingly tending to our retail store and smoothie stand.

Our goal is to encourage exchange of currency based on trust and need. Our Gift Economy system looks like equally dividing profits from the store and smoothie sales between each core member - those of us supporting SOUL CIRCUS throughout a festival’s duration. From there, we each have the opportunity to reflect on the time and energy spent supporting our community, as well as our personal financial needs. We gather to share our reflections and needs with the rest of the core group, and then have the opportunity to share our portion of the profits with whomever we choose.

This is a radical experiment in trust, as we examine the stories of privilege and value that we have likely all experienced, in regard to labour, education, and commerce. What if we were actually all doing our best, and inherently deserved to be warm, fed, and housed? How can we create a system that supports this belief? These are questions that our gift economy attempts to face head-on.

Let’s Connect.
